THE REVISED STANDARD VERSION

2 minuten leestijd Arcering uitzetten

In the February issue of this paper, we have endeavored to show our readers why we do not favor the Revised Standard Version of the Bible, yea, despise it. Soon, the Lord willing, we will place another article on this subject, as it was sent to us.

At this time, however, I wish to call the readers’ attention to the new translation of Romans 3:30: “Since God is one; and He will justify the circumcised on the ground of their faith and the uncircumcised because of their faith.”

The text in the King James Version is as follows: “Seeing it is one God which shall justify the circumcision by faith, and uncircumcision through faith.”

Thus, the translators of the Revised Standard Version have changed it to read, “on the ground of their faith,” and “because of their faith.” This makes it very clear to us what spirit filled these men, for they certainly have brought the Papist and the Arminian into this word, which we most certainly must reject, on the basis of God’s Holy Word.

It is indeed a very poor and sandy ground, if a sinner must be justified upon the ground of his faith, or on acount of his faith. He would surely perish forever.

Such a translation is contrary to what Paul has taught so very clearly about the justification of a sinner only by faith in Christ Jesus. God justifies the sinner on the ground of Jesus’ righteousness. Jesus, the “Lord of Righteousness” is the only ground of salvation, and faith is the given instrument by which the imputed righteousness of Christ is accepted and embraced. Paul says in Romans 5:1: “Therefore being justified by faith, we have peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ.” God must be ascribed all honor and glory, not a poor sinner.

I was glad to read that the American Bible Society does not publish and circulate the Revised Standard Version as a whole. I was very disappointed to learn further that they do print and distribute the New Testament of the RSV. I certainly do hope, as many others do, that this useful Society will discontinue as soon as possible the publishing and distribution of such deceptive New Testaments.
