XIX Lord’s Day.

Q.—Why is it added in the articles of our Christian faith, “And sitteth at the right hand of God?”

A.—Because Christ ascended into heaven for a certain end.

Q.—What is the end for which Christ ascended into heaven?

A.—That He might there appear as the head of His church.

Q.—What does He do there as the head of His Church?

A.—By Him the Father governs all things.

Q.—What profit is this glory of Christ, our head, unto us?

A.—That He pours out heavenly graces upon us His members.

Q.—By whom does he pour out these graces upon us?

A.—By His Holy Spirit.

Q.—What further profit is Christ’s glory, as our head, to us?

A.—That He defends and preserves us.

Q.—Against what does He defend and preserve us?

A.—Against all enemies?

Q.—By what does He defend and preserve us against all enemies?

A.—By His power.

Q.—Is it a comfort to you, “that Christ shall come again to judge the quick and the dead?’ ‘

?.—Yes.

Q.—In what circumstances is it a comfort to you?

A.—In all my sorrows and persecutions.

Q.—What are you to do, so as to make it a comfort to you, in all your sorrows and persecutions?

A.—I am to look for Christ to come as judge from heaven.

Q.—In what attitude are you thus to look for Christ to come as judge from heaven?

A.—With uplifted head.

Q.—In what light are you to regard Christ so as to make His coming as judge from heaven a source of comfort to you?

A.—As the very same person Who before offered Himself, for my sake, to the tribunal of God.

Q.—What has Christ done for you besides having offered Himself for your sake to the tribunal of God?

A.—He has removed all curse from me.

Q.—What will Christ do, when He shall come as judge from heaven?

A.—He shall cast all His and my enemies into everlasting condemnation.

Q.—What will He do more especially with respect to yourself?

A.—He shall translate me, with all His chosen ones, to Himself, into heavenly joys and glory.

XX Lord’s Day.

Q.—What do you believe concerning the Holy Ghost?

A.—That He is true and co-eternal God with the Father and the Son.

Q.—What further do you believe concerning the Holy Ghost?

A.—That He is also given to me.

Q.—For what purpose is He given to you?

A.—To make me a partaker of Christ and all His benefits.

Q.—By what does He make you a partaker of Christ and all his benefits?

A.—By a true faith.

Q.—For what other purpose is He given to you?

A.—That He may comfort me and abide with me forever.
