THE LORD ANSWERS PRAYER

Many years ago in a far-away land there lived a God-fearing mother. She had a little girl six years old whom she greatly loved. Children, do your parents not love you greatly, and do you love your dear parents?

This mother has written about something very wonderful that took place, and tells us that her little girl suddenly became very sick. She was afflicted with an eye disease, which became so bad that she could not go to school for four months. Sometimes this little girl had to grope for the wall with her little hands just like a blind person. And then this mother tells us that she prayed very much for her child, but it did not please the Lord to answer her prayer right away, and then it seemed to her as if there was no God, or as if the Lord did not hear her prayers at all. She spent many sleepless nights and quite often she was so discouraged that she would not touch her food. She felt very sad indeed. But then the Lord taught her that when distress is at its greatest, then deliverance is usually not far away.

One morning, these words came with power to her soul: “Call upon Me in the day of trouble: I will deliver thee, and thou shalt glorify Me.”

“And,” says this pious mother, “my soul was delivered and also our child was delivered.” The child was really not better yet she was still just as unfortunate as before — but this mother saw her dear child perfectly healed already by faith. And she goes on to say: “Now I know what it is to sing before the walls of Jericho have fallen. Yes, even if all the doctors would now tell me that it is impossible for my child to be cured, then God would not be God any more, if He did not fulfill His promise. But praised be the blessed name of God Almighty. He not only promised, but He also fulfilled His promise. In looking up to the all-knowing God I may say that our child was perfectly healed after five or six days. My dear girl soon stood before me as a witness of God’s eternal faithfulness and goodness.”

Lord, hear me while I pray,
While now in trouble’s day
I seek Thy face.
To answer, Lord, is Thine;
Thou only art divine,
Most bright Thy glories shine,
O God of grace.

In all Thy deeds how great art Thou!
Thou one and true God, Thy way make clear;
Teach me with undivided heart
To trust Thy truth, Thy name to fear.
