ON THE TRANSFER OF NEW GUINEA TO INDONESIA

3 minuten leestijd Arcering uitzetten

The territory of the Netherlands is being reduced. New Guinea, the last part of our former Indies, is being transferred to Indonesia. The Papuans will be under the rule of Soekarno. The Christian people of New Guinea will be under the atheistic rule of a God-dishonoring Communism. Soekarno has triumphed!

Our missionary, who is presently laboring in New Guinea, will soon have to endure much from that Communism. In the midst of all these developments, however, stands the Word of the Lord in Psalm 97, “The Lord reigneth.”

Not Soekarno, not America, not Russia, but the Lord reigneth! Nothing happens without the counsel of the Lord. It was decreed in God’s providence that on the 5th day of August in the year of our Lord 1962, New Guinea would be transferred to Indonesia. The almighty God holds the reins of all the happenings in this world in His hand.

Concerning the missionary work, the Lord will care for this Himself; because those that lie under the seal of God’s eternal love, shall be brought forth right through all the woes of this world. The Lord Himself cares for His Church. The Lord also will care for and protect His servants. He shall make it well for them. The enemies may then arise and prepare to disturb the Lord’s work, if it were possible, but they shall not prosper. The Lord reigns!

Yea, the Lord shall reign forever. Thy God, O Zion, is from geenration to generation! Whatever happens, it is all directed according to His counsel. The Lord will sustain or support His own work, and the gates of hell shall not prevail against His Church. He shall not deliver the soul of His turtledove unto the multitude of the wicked, who will not spare in their fury. Regardless of all that vain man will devise, the Word of the Lord says, “The Lord reigneth!”

We may call to our missionaries and say: Keep courage, “for they that be with us are more than they that be with them.” Without His will not a hair of your head shall be touched. Right through all the political confusion the Lord will execute His counsel. And through all the troubles and fears He shall lead His Church to the land of Immanuel, where there is eternal peace. There the enemy cannot come. There nothing and not one enemy can disturb the rest of the Church.

Canaan shall sweeten it all!
