REPORT OF CLASSIS EAST

2 minuten leestijd Arcering uitzetten

The Classical meeting was held on April 25, 1963, at the Haledon Avenue Church, Paterson, N.J.

The meeting was opened with the singing of Psalm 89:1, 3, the reading of Matthew 28 from verse 11 to the end, and prayer by Rev. M. Heerschap.

A word of welcome was extended to the delegates, and Rev. Heerschap expressed the hope that the Lord would be in the midst and guide in all the miners which had to be transacted. Looking back, also in the churches since the last classical meeting, it must be said, “It is of the Lord’s mercies that we are not consumed.” The Lord reigns over His Church and not man, and He will be with His Church until the end of the world.

Approval was given by all delegates that Deacon D. Nieuwenhuis act as secretary.

Credentials were found in order, and the following officers were chosen: Rev. M. Heerschap, president; Elder J. Sweetman, vice-president; Deacon D. Nieuwenhuis, secretary.

Minutes of the previous meeting were read and approved.

Rev. Heerschap reported that the Haledon Ave. Church (English), with the support of the sister churches in the Classis had to expel one of their elders for public schism.

Report of the Mission Society by Deacon Wm. Baum: Balance on hand, $1,782.79. Elder J. Sweetman and Deacon D. Nieuwenhuis were chosen to replace other members in the Mission Society.

It was also decided that each congregation in the classis shall have two collections each year for the mission: one for the support of Rev. Kuijt, and one for domestic missions.

Various sermons are being translated from Holland into English by one of the members, and a committee was appointed to approve these sermons before distribution. The Mission Society will cover the cost of printing and distribution of these sermons.

The next classis will be held D.V. Thursday, November 7, 1963. Calling church, Haledon Ave. (Holland), Paterson, N.J.

The moderator extended a few words of thanks to the delegates and hoped that the Lord would bless them in their various duties, to the honor of His name and to the welfare of His Church here upon earth. The meeting was closed by Elder Sweetman after the singing of Psalter No. 60, Stanzas 1, 2, and 3.
