While Rev. G. Kuijt is endeavoring to do some missionary work among the heathens in New Guinea, Indonesia, likewise Mr. and Mrs. Ten Voorde and Sister Sonneveld are presently laboring among a heathen people in north Nigeria, Africa. They also have been sent by our Holland congregations to this mission field. Mr. Ten Voorde departed from Holland in the month of August, 1963, and has supervision over many small schools which have been established in heathen villages. The purpose is to advance the Kingdom of Christ in that heathen region. They have complete liberty to regulate the instruction according to the principles of our churches.

Sister Sonneveld, whose work is also in Nigeria, is a nurse, and at the same time she tries to make the truth known as much as possible. She leads a very busy life, which is evident from her letter dated September 13, 1963.

She writes: “Many villages have asked me to come and help them soon, but I am not able to do so. Many children die because they can not be taken care of. On Tuesday some parents came to me with their baby, which was very sick. I advised them to go to the hospital at Oturkpo, but they refused. If we had a hospital here they surely would have stayed, but Oturkpo was too far away. This is not the only time this has happened. If we had a small hospital here, a doctor, and at least one more nurse, we would be able to do much more.

“I already do more than I have permission to do; my days are too long, but I cannot do differently. Thus far it is not possible to work regularly; at times I have plans to go to some particular villages, but then so many come to my house again that I cannot leave.

“My work is more difficult here than it was in New Guinea, but it is not done with less happiness. My task is here, and here I may give myself; ;and although it is often very difficult, it strengthens me to know that God is with me.

“Remember us much in your prayers. We experience that prayer avails much.”
