TELEVISION
Television serves to bring into our very living rooms the tawdry scenes which until recently were scarcely imagined by respectable people. Displayed before our eyes is a constant parade of robberies, murders, torture and crimes of all descriptions which were known only by the men and women of the underworld. But a few years ago only the worldliest of people who frequented the night clubs and dives of the larger cities saw the drinking, immodesty and lewd dancing which form a steady diet of those who have become avid television fans. (And you still want a television in your home? — Editor.)
As these things become commonplace by constant exposure to them, is it any wonder that children and adults as well begin to lose their sense of decency and find themselves unshocked and even thrilled by such things? Children begin to imitate these things and the next step for all of us is the practice of them.
Obsence literature.
A still picture can be just as harmful as a moving one. The still pictures which fill so many of the magazines on the newsstand are, perhaps, more vulgar and filthy than any permitted on the screens. Christians have no business allowing their minds to feed upon corruption. It is poison to the soul. Parents have a great responsibility to supervise the reading of their children.
