If the songs of the Reformation could only be sung by those who felt these things in their hearts then in many places today an anxious silence would have to set in. So we should remember the men and women who gave everything for the known truth of the gospel. Reformation Day reminds us of the order of emigration put out by the fanatical Bishop-Duke Firmian of Salzburg in 1731, when the Protestants refused to return to the Catholic confessions. According to the order all the Protestant residents had to leave the country, those without property within a week and those parents and citizens with property within three months. From December 1731 to November 1732 20,000 left their homes in order to be able to remain true to their faith. We can only guess how much sorrow and fear was concealed behind this number of people. Their example calls to us: Look to your goal and follow your faith.

An old lady in giving advice to her family once said, “If you are ever in doubt as to what you are going to do or get, just ask yourself if you can sincerely and conscientiously pray to the Lord for His blessing. If you cannot do this it is a pretty sure sign that it is wrong.”
