A LETTER TO THE PRESIDENT OF THE U.S.A.

4 minuten leestijd Arcering uitzetten

December 19, 1970

Honorable President, Mr. Richard Nixon.

Dear Sir:

Permit us as supporters of God’s Holy Word, and lovers of our beloved nation, to express a few grievances with our supreme court. We would be unfaithful to God and country as one of the silent majority if we would not express them. The honor of our heavenly benefactor is trampled upon, respect for His law which made our beloved America a great nation has subsided.

The children have been deprived the privilege of reading God’s word, and a sex education has taken its place, with pornography, and female nudity being freely displayed. Communists educators are invited from the communist countries to speak to our young people, anarchy has become permissive, and activities to defeat communism the enemy of our nation are no longer tolerated. God formerly gave this nation the victories over our enemies while we regarded His word. Have we not given Him reason to depart?

What will be left of our freedom before another election takes place? Will God permit us to be destroyed like He did Sodom and Gomorrah, and will it not be a just recompense?

Honorable President, PLEASE let your influence be heard, to save our nation from total despair!

Our prayer to God is for you, and country, but may it not already be too late as we read in Jeremiah 11:14 “Therefore pray thou not for this people, neither lift up a cry or prayer for them: for I will not hear them in the time that they cry unto me for their trouble”?

Even though you would be a one term president, may you be instrumental to bring this nation back to God, so that He may say to you, “Well done my faithful servant.”

Humbly submitted,

THE NETHERLANDS REFORMED CONGREGATION OF AMERICA

Sincerely yours,

The Synodical Committee.

Rev. A. Elshout.

C. F. Boerkoel, Sr., Elder

A FEW WORDS OF THANKS

We wish to express our sincere thanks and appreciation to all the friends in the United States and Canada, for all the love and kindness shown to us at the time of our serious operation and afterwards.

The Lord has made all things well. All glory and honor to His great Name

Greetings from Rev. and Mrs. J. Van Zweden.

CHEBOYGAN’S NEWLY ACQUIRED CHURCH

On Thursday evening October 8, Rev. Van Zweden conducted the first service in our present church. This was opened with the singing of Psalter 228:1,2,3. The minister then addressed the congregation briefly, reminiscing how the Lord had been with us in the old place of worship. The Lord had converted sinners there and also spoken words of instruction, admonition and consolation to His people. He wished for us too, that the Lord would be with us here in our future church home. That many souls might bow before King Jesus and many would be called from darkness to the light of the gospel through the preaching of His servants and the sermons of our forefathers.

After the minister offered prayer, and while the congregation sang Psalter 284:1, he opened the Bible for us for the first time and read from the first book of Kings, chapter 8. His text for this occasion was the 29th verse, “That thine eyes may be open toward this house night and day, even toward the place of which Thou hast said, My name shall be there: that Thou mayest hearken unto the prayer which Thy servant shall make toward this place.”

The points for meditation were, 1-The temple of the house of God. 2-The praying King Solomon and the praying souls with him. 3-The answering King Solomon to the people who received comfort and joy. After expounding the text and a closing prayer of thanksgiving, the congregation sang Psalter 197, verses 1:2, and received the blessing in the benediction.
