CHRISTIAN EDUCATION

For some time attempts have been made in some of our congregations to establish their own schools. Committees have been formed out of members of the consistory and of the congregation in Franklin Lakes, Norwich, and Chilliwack. Money has been collected, building permits have been received, interviews have been held with those who in due time could serve as teachers in the schools.

For many years it has been the privilege of our church in Grand Rapids to have our own school. We know that nothing on earth is perfect. Also this work is done in much weakness and with many shortcomings, yet we cannot appreciate enough the blessing of having our own school in which the Bible is taught, that infallible Word of God that can make us wise unto salvation.

The public schools are being corrupted more and more with atheistic and communistic ideas. The Christian education that is still to be found in some places is so permeated with the spirit of presupposed regeneration, that neither to that can we entrust our children.

Some congregations have already done very much, also financially, but much, very much, is still needed. Therefore we commend this matter to you, asking you in the first place to remember this cause in your prayers, and then also to give your gifts of love generously. Because many of the grandparents, uncles, and aunts of the children that will be attending these schools live in the Netherlands, a letter has also been sent to them asking for their assistance in this matter.

Since at present our Christian schools have no central organization, I am willing to accept gifts or loans, or promises of gifts or loans for this purpose, to be placed in a common fund and shared. Collections or gifts thus received will be acknowledged in The Banner of Truth.

Please, dear friends, let us not plead in vain. Help the congregations who are hoping for a school of their own. May the Lord bless these attempts for His Own sake, and crown them with His favor. Luther wrote, “Give me the children, and I have the future.” Expecting to hear from you,

Your friend,

Rev. W.C. Lamain
