REV. W. SUYKER

Rev. Suyker’s condition has improved to such an extent that he hopes to return to his congregation in the very near future.

By the time that this issue of the Banner of Truth reaches its readers the minister may already be home in Rock Valley.

May the Lord strengthen and encourage the brother so that he may soon resume his pastoral duties.

That the Lord may sanctify these trials to His honor and glory, and to the welfare of Rev. Suyker’s soul.

CURATORIUM

Feb. 10, ‘76

The Curatorium will meet, the Lord willing, on Wednesday, June 16th after the conclusion of the Synod.

It would be a great blessing if the Lord would call some young men to the ministry of the Word, since the harvest is great and the laborers are few.

It has been a custom from the time of the apostles, that those who were ordained to the ministry of the Word, were chosen by the church, as appears from Acts 14:23 “When they had chosen elders, by lifting up hands”, as the Dutch version correctly states. Those elders labored also in the Word and doctrine.

The same method becomes evident out of that which Paul wrote to Timothy: “Neglect not the gift that is in thee, which was given by prophecy, with laying on of the hands of the presbytery”. I Tim. 4:14.

The entering into the vineyard of the Lord must take place through the right door of examination by those who have been appointed by the church to perform such a serious and important work.

Therefore, we request the churches to offer a special prayer for the Lord’s guidance in this responsible work on the Sunday preceding the meeting of the Curatorium.

Those who have received an attestation from their local congregation should send it in to the clerk of the Curatorium before the tenth of May.

Churches without a minister must ask their moderator for an attest.

“If ye then be risen with Christ, seek those things which are above, where Christ sitteth on the right hand of God. Set your affection on things above, not on things on the earth. For ye are dead, and your life is hid with Christ in God.

Colossians 3,1–3

“Being confident of this very thing, that he which hath begun a good work in you will perform it until the day of Jesus Christ.

Who is a God like unto thee, that pardoneth iniquity, and passeth by the transgression of the remnant of his heritage? he retaineth not his anger for ever, because he delighteth in mercy. Micah 7:18.
