Dear Friends,
Herewith we thank you all for your kind gifts in behalf of the support of the mission. May the Lord bless you and your gifts. Though we live in dark and troubled times, the church of God shall stand and the mission work will go on. You may say that is quite a saying and I would agree with you that it is were it in the hand of man, but what a blessing that it is not in the hand of man, but in the hands of a Triune God. The blessed message was sent by the angels on the field in Ephrata. That message must be brought to the end of time, and the Bible says, they shall come from the east and the west, the north and the south. Oh my young and old friends shall we be among that blessed number? The door of the ark is still standing open. May the Lord give prayer for a revival. That the Lord would richly bless His word on the mission fields. We may hear from time to time that there are some encouragements upon the mission work though there are also many discouragements. There also are tokens that the Lord has not forsaken His Church at home either. It comes to my mind when we were in the Netherlands, Rev. Vergunst took us to visit an elder of Poederoyen by the name of Mr. DenBoef who was dying from leukemia, being between 60 and 65 years old. It was a very special time to visit him. When he was telling how that the Lord was so near and dear to him that he had no fear of death but longed to be delivered from the body of sin and death, our hearts were stirred with a holy jealousy. We sang together Psalm 32 (Psalter 82) and I thought, oh may my end be like his. We have heard later on that he passed away. The church has become poorer and heaven has become richer. May the Lord fill the empty places. A few weeks ago we visited Gerrit Witvoet with Rev. Suyker, in South Holland, who also was dying from cancer. Although at times he had much strife, the morning we were there he was quite encouraged, and he said, “Now it becomes reality,” and that is something. Now we have heard that he passed away, so another member less in the church militant and another member more in the church triumphant, and so we can see that even in these dark times the Lord upholds His own work. He will be glorified through the work of His own hands. Oh my young friends do not go along with every wind of doctrine, remember the words of Mr. Witvoet when he lay on his dying bed, he said, “Now it is reality,” and for him it was an eternal blessing through the grace of God. He told us a few years ago how that it became reality for him and that he had to die and could not die. Shall it be well with us in the hour of death, it has to become reality in our life. We have to die because of our sins and to meet a just, a righteous, and a holy God, before Whom we have no righteousness of our own, nothing but guilt, then too it becomes reality. Oh my dear friends we live in modern times, and deceitful times, with a deceitful heart, but remember the Lord converts people in the same way today as in times past, there is no new way. Pray for the outpouring of the Holy Spirit. We strayed away from mission news a little, but we wrote the thoughts of our heart.
