Dear Friends,

Again we acknowledge everyone for their kind support of the mission work. May the Lord bless you and your gifts. Mr. and Mrs. Johan Commelin were blessed with a baby girl. We include a short letter from them. We ask all our friends to read Jeremiah 3 and pray for the application of his holy Spirit. May the Lord yet bring us in the true humility. In that chapter the inspired writer brings forth the sins of his people, and thereafter brings the precious invitation of the gospel, and that the acknowledgement of guilt comes before deliverance. We wish everyone the blessing of the Lord for the New Year of 1978. May it be a year of the Lord’s divine favor to bring back unto Him a backsliding church and people. That we may be given to close the old year with true humiliation, with confession of guilt, with true gratitude, and that we may enter the New Year with the true given prayer, “Oh God in wrath remember mercy.” The Lord Jesus is a high priest on the throne forever. So far things are going well on the mission fields. May the Lord give prayer for our mission workers and for the mission board, and for his servants and His church in general, that they may seek the honor and the glory of a triune God. That they may be given special grace to deny themselves, because my friends, it takes special grace, for even the Lord Jesus prayed in Gethsemane, “Not my will, but thy will be done.” It will be a wonder from heaven when it may happen one time in our life or by renewing. Then it will remain a one sided work of God. In behalf of the Mission Committee.

A LETTER FROM MR. AND MRS. JOHAN COMMELIN

Zwanenburg, holland

20-11-77

Dear friends,

Our Lord God committed unto us a newborn healthy child, whom we call Lydia, hoping that she will fear and believe in God like the well-known Lydia from the Bible. We praise God that, though we expected complications, all is well with both mother and child. We do realize that we do not deserve any mercies for us and our children, but we hope and trust in His unfailing compassion alone. David said: “On Thee was I cast from my mother’s womb”(Ps. 71).

When all is well with Marijke and Lydia we hope to return to Nigeria soon. Geurt and Hanna are anxiously awaiting our return, and so are our friends at Izi.

We commit you to God’s care.

Yours in Him,

Johan and Marijke Commelin and Pieta
