YOUTHDAY IN SUNNYSIDE WASHINGTON
The Youthday Conference took place in Sunny-side on August 5th, 1978, with about 130 in attendance. Registration began at 9 o’clock, at 9:30 Elder John den Hoed opended the meeting, welcoming those in attendance.
Psalter 162, stanzes 1, 2 was sung. After this Arie Van Wingerden as program moderator asked Rev. Den Boer to lead in prayer, in which there was a pleading for the Lord’s blessing and the hallowing of his name in that day. Adult Baptism was the topic of the address given by Rev. Den Boer, wherein he sketched Baptism as taking the place of circumcission, the blessing of Baptism, and also the need of conversion.
After singing by the choir of Sunnyside, John den Hoed spoke on the “Meaning of Life.” There were two points to his topic, a true meaning and a false meaning of life. After this an opportunity was given for questions which were then answered. A Bible quiz was held, lead by John Van Belle for the boys and girls, and was enjoyed by everyone present.
A noon meal was provided by the ladies of the Church. Elder Eggebeen closed the morning session and asked a blessing for the meal. Before the afternoon session Elder De Bruin from Lynden asked the Lord’s blessing and then everyone sang psalter 355, stanzes 1,2,3.
Jim Beeke spoke on, “the Bible is the work of God.” His topic was planned around 10 well chosen points. The Sunnyside choir sang a number of songs. Then Dr. Rene Barendrecht spoke on education, pointing especially to the blessing of Christian education. Again a number of questions were submitted and answered.
Everyone was then asked to join in singing Psalter 126. Arie Van Wingerden thanked the young people for their fine attendance, thanked those who had a part in the program of the day, and the ladies for all the work in preparing the meal. Then Mr. Beeke closed the meeting with prayer.
