CHURCH NEWS
Blessed is the man that walketh not in the counsel of the ungodly, nor standeth in the way of sinners, nor sitteth in the seat of the scornful. But his delight is in the law of the Lord; and in his law doth he meditate day and night. Psalm 1:1-2

OFFICE-BEARER CONFERENCE
The synodical office-bearer conference for 1982 will be held, the Lord willing, at Grand Rapids, Michigan on June 15, 1982 at 2:00 p.m. The conference schedule is as follows:
2:00-2:40 The Most Important Thing In Office-Bearing (Rev. W.C. Lamain)
2:40-2:50 Questions answered by Rev. Lamain
2:50-3:30 Do We Need Church Order? (Rev. A.M. DenBoer)
3:30-3:50 Coffee break
3:50-4:00 Questions answered by Rev. DenBoer 4:00-4:40 Personal Obstacles in Office-Bearing and Their Solutions (Parts V, VI) (Rev. J.R. Beeke)
4:40-4:50 Questions answered by Rev. Beeke
Attendance of synodical delegates is expected, but we also hope as a committee that local consistories will seek to provide funds for the attendance of those office-bearers who wish to attend, but have not been delegated to Synod (similar to aid provided to teachers to attend their annual August conference). (Former office-bearers are also welcome, as well as interested male members.)
This will be the third office-bearer conference held in our denomination and though it is still relatively new in our circles we have not met one attending office-bearer to date who has not felt something of the worthwhileness and possible potential of such conferences when blessed by God. Classical and synodical gatherings often amount to little more than sessions of church business as so many matters arise in our sin-sick time which warrant indepth ecclesiastical discussion; therefore it is hoped that this conference (as well as future conferences) will promote much God-glorifying and profitable instruction, while simultaneously producing greater love and baring of hearts among our office-bearers towards each other. May the God of all grace increasingly provide converted and called officebearers among us who are personally acquainted with a God-fearing dependency upon the great and only Office-bearer, Jesus Christ, through whom and from whom all office-bearing instruction must ultimately be received.
On behalf of the Office-Bearer
Conference Committee,
GENERAL SYNOD 1982
As the calling church, the Consistory of the Netherlands Reformed Congregation at Lethbridge wishes to announce that the General Synod 1982 is to meet on June 16 and 17, 1982, God willing.
On Tuesday evening, Rev. J.R. Beeke of Franklin Lakes hopes to take his turn in preaching during a prayer service for the Synod. The service will start at 7:45 p.m. and will be held in the First Netherlands Reformed Congregation Church at Grand Rapids.
On Wednesday morning at 9:00 a.m., the Lord willing, Rev. M. Heerschap of Lethbridge is to open the synodical meeting, again in the building of the First Netherlands Reformed Church of Grand Rapids.
Whereas the General Synod consists of delegates from our three Classes, which in turn are made up of delegates from each Consistory, the Synod represents our broadest ecclesiastical gathering. Ordinarily it meets once every two years. It is understandable, then, that synodical meetings are of considerable importance because here matters are dealt with that concern our entire denomination.
Important days he ahead, also because the Curatorium and Mission Board will meet. The Lord grant love among each other, wisdom from on high, and stedfastness to remain with the old proven truth. May each one be given to ask for the Lord’s blessing. We request each Consistory to remember these matters in prayer on the Lord’s Day preceeding these meetings in the public worship service. ‘Pray for the peace of Jerusalem’ (Psalm 122:6a).
The Consistory of the Netherlands
Reformed Congregation at Lethbridge
