IN FAREWELL
I would like to express my heartfelt thanks to all those who did their utmost to make my stay in the United States and Canada an agreeable and unforgettable one. I thank all the congregations for the patience they had with my preaching, but on the other hand I might time and again believe that the Lord was helping me. Often there was an inward joy and gladness to be in the midst of your congregations and a desire that I might preach again.
Then I also owe my thanks to all those families with whom I stayed for just a few hours or for some days for all they did for me, and all those whom I met during my trip through the congregations. The much love shown by the members in their helpfulness made a deep impression upon me. It was a time that I will not soon forget, especially that I might learn that the Lord is also working in your congregations; this fact has gladdened me.
May mutual bonds have been laid by the Lord, as I have often experienced the nearness of the Lord. May it not be the first and last visit.
Once again, my sincere thanks to all of you, the older people, but also the boys and girls. “Seek ye the Lord while He may be found, call ye upon Him while He is near.”
Desiring and seeking your welfare, M. Burggraaf
“INSIGHT INTO..” A PUBLICATION FOR YOUNG PEOPLE
Some years ago a publication came into existence among us entitled “Insight Into...” Its purpose was to make a more personal contact with young people (late teens and upward) in regard to their many questions, concerns, decisions and needs as they travel through this life. God in His Word gives us many instructions to guide us, but because of continuing changes in the world about us, we are prone to reason that the Bible does not speak to our current needs in this life. How necessary it is that we prayerfully study together in attempting to know our calling, based upon God’s Word. We would like to see all young people of our congregations subscribe to the “Insight Into..”
Parents and grandparents, it can be an excellent gift, and with God’s blessing can be most beneficial. We would like to keep our young people with the truth, and therefore we must not neglect the means which are provided for that purpose. Our hope is to discuss a variety of subjects — in fact, subscribers are welcome to submit topics which they feel would be of particular interest.
Subscriptions should be sent to Mrs. M. Timmermans, P.O. Box 42, Norwich, Ontario, Canada NOJ 1PO. The subscription rate is $5.00 per year.
YOUTH CONFERENCE NORWICH, ONTARIO, CANADA
The Lord willing, a Youth Conference will be held in Norwich, Ontario, Canada, on Saturday, July 2, 1983. Those desiring information or arrangements for accomodations in Norwich may contact Mr. and Mrs. C. W. Sommer, R. R. #1, Salford, Ontario, Canada NOJ 1WO, telephone area 519/485-5428. It is hoped that many young people will again be able to be present with a sincere desire to learn together the principles set before them in the Word of God. May the Lord add His blessing.
CURATORIUM ANNOUNCEMENT The
Curatorium hopes to meet on June 15, 1983, 9:00 A.M., in Grand Rapids, Michigan. Anyone who feels he has been personally called to true conversion and the ministry of God’s Word, should contact a consistory member. The consistories of vacant churches, in turn, should request the presence of their moderator, prior to the granting of an attest. Those who receive a letter of attestation from their consistory granting permission to appear before the Curatorium, should send it to the clerk before May 15.
After we receive an individual’s attest requesting to be heard by the Curatorium with respect to conversion and ministerial calling, a list of questions will be forwarded to the consistory involved. These questions must be answered as completely as possible, and returned to the clerk.
May the Lord take reasons out of Himself to provide ministerial ambassadors among us who are divinely called to proclaim the doctrines of free and sovereign grace, in which God is exalted to the highest and man abased to the lowest. The need is great and becomes increasingly greater. Nineteen of our twenty-four pulpits are now vacant. Truly, the Lord has a controversy with us. His judgments have not only begun with the house of God, but presently lie heavily upon us. Sadly, few take it to heart. Few feel the crying need for heaven-sent ambassadors, much less the need for the Chief Shepherd to dwell among and live within us. May the Lord graciously remove His righteously withholding hand and gladden us with His deeds. May He provide many mourning Jeremiahs to lament the sorrowful condition of His struggling church. In addition to giving interceding grace for more laborers in His harvest, may the Lord also grant Aarons and Hurs before His throne on behalf of both Brother Spaans and DenHoed in their studies and labors in the congregations.
We hope the need for ministers is remembered regularly not only by elders in public petitions, but also by many members privately, for “the harvest truly is plenteous, but the labourers are few; pray ye therefore the Lord of the harvest, that He will send forth labourers in His harvest” (Matt. 9:37b-38).
