ABORTION
A recent major poll conducted by Newsweek resulted in the conclusion that more than one-quarter of all pregnancies in the United States now end in abortion — roughly 4,000 a day. Nearly 40% of Americans now wonder whether their own position on abortion is right — regardless of their support or opposition. Rightly, the study concludes that our society is increasingly being torn between two different value systems that do not admit of compromise.
In the interim, however, medical science has been confirming biblical data on the status of the fetus as an authentic person (e.g., Psalm 139). Recently, UPI confirmed that after five months a baby has gone home from a hospital in Barcelona, Spain who set a record as the smallest surviving infant ever born. Irene Perez weighed 465 grams at birth, or barely one pound. Under God’s blessing, medical technology has pushed viability so early that even non-Christian specialists are beginning to speak in larger numbers that the denial of “personhood” to a fetus is becoming increasingly difficult.
May God graciously bless all efforts to stamp out the grievous sin of abortion in North American.
