THE INHERITANCE PUBLISHERS
This independent non-profit organization was founded in 1929 by the late Mr. Kris Winters, Sr. of Grand Rapids, Michigan. It acknowledges the Holy Bible to be the Word of God, and recognizes, as being founded on that Word: the Belgic Confession, The Heidelberg Catechism, the Canons of Dort, the Westminster Confession, and the Larger and the Shorter Catechisms of the Westminster divines.
Mr. C. Bleeker, secretary of “The Inheritance Publishers,” is a member of the Grand Rapids, Michigan Netherlands Reformed Congregation.
As was stated in the very first booklet published, the purpose of this organization is: “The publication of sermons and treatises, not for profit, but for the dissemination of the truth as expounded by the old writers, in order to carry the Gospel by means of the printed page, where church privileges are wanting or not embraced.”
In September, 1932, a group of men in Grand Rapids, Michigan, assumed the responsibility of carrying on the work of this organization, at the request of its founder who was leaving the country.
The Netherlands Reformed Congregations at its meeting of “Classis West” in June, 1934, recognized the work of this organization and appointed a committee to look over and approve the publications of the organization in accordance with Article 55 of Church Order.
In later meetings of Classes East and West, and the Synod, the Church reaffirmed its position relative to the importance of the work of the organization, and has given it the privilege of placing its financial needs before the various consistories whenever conditions warrant. This organization receives its financial support entirely from voluntary donations, individual contributions, and in particular, special collections taken periodically by our congregations. In 1986, individual contributions amounted to $2,037.00 and various other donations amounted to $9,960.00.
The sermons and treatises are printed in a small booklet form and are being mailed to almost every state in the Union and also to many foreign countries; also, some are being sent behind the Iron Curtain.
Presently, we have 15,000 booklets printed at each mailing at a cost of $1,800.00. We feel that this publication plays an important part in the mission activities of the Netherlands Reformed Congregations.
It is encouraging to read from various letters received that this type of literature is still desired and appreciated, but also an occasional letter is received wherein it is despised and no longer wanted.
We read in Ecclesiastes 11:1, “Cast thy bread uponjhe waters, for thou shalt find it after many days.”
The Lord has upheld this work for more than fifty-five years and may He continue to bless these feeble means being put forth to spread the true Gospel by means of the printed page. ?
