INSIGHT INTO

3 minuten leestijd Arcering uitzetten

This publication which was especially directed to the youth of our congregation, first made its appearance in December of 1977. It was then under the editorship of Rev. J.C. Weststrate of St. Catharines, Ontario, and Rev. A. Den Boer of Norwich, Ontario. The need was felt to make and maintain contact with the young people who were often confronted with secular, atheistical and humanistic opinions contradictory to the Word of God, especially those who were studying in universities, colleges, high schools, etc.

In the first issue there was an introduction written by Rev. Weststrate, setting forth the purpose and intent of Insight Into, and he expressed the desire that the Lord might bless these humble means to the glory of His Name and the welfare of young and old alike. Among other articles there was also a short meditation by Rev. J. Van Haaren on the question found in Matthew 16:26, “For what is a man profited, if he shall gain the whole world, and lose his own soul?” Rev. Den Boer also wrote an article for this first issue regarding the “Youth for Christ” and our objections against them.

It was at the Classis meeting held in Kalamazoo early in 1977 that the approval of Classis was given for this periodical, and since that time five issues per year have been sent out. The printing was done in Bradford, Ontario, and the mailing and administration work was taken care of in Norwich. When Rev. Weststrate accepted a call to the Netherlands in 1979, Rev. Den Boer assumed the editorship alone, and this continued until the Classis of 1984 appointed Rev. H. Hofman to that position. This was due to Rev. Den Boer’s move to Sioux Center, Iowa.

Subscribers were quite limited in the beginning, but there was a continual increase over the years, until presently approximately 1500 are mailed out each time. In the interim, the supervision and administration had also been transferred to Kalamazoo, and since 1987 also the printing and mailing has been done there. At present Insight Into is mailed out six times a year with a subscription price of $5.00 per year (U.S. Funds). The address for subscriptions is: Mrs. Cheryl Schipper, 4732 East “C” Avenue, Kalamazoo, Michigan 49004

For quite some time Rev. Hofman has been supplying an article for each issue entitled “Personal Instruction,” in which he particularly addresses the young people, answering their questions as received. Efforts are made to publish instructive and thought-provoking subject matter in accordance with the purpose stated in the first issue. Addresses given at Youth Conferences are also frequently published so that others may benefit from them as well as those who are attending. Translated materials from publications in the Netherlands are also used from time to time.

It continues to be the desire of the committee, as was expressed by Rev. Weststrate in the first issue, “May the Lord bless these humble means to the glory of His Name, and the welfare of young and old in our congregations.”
