Extended
To Rev. L. Blok of Nunspeet, the Netherlands by the Covell Ave., Grand Rapids, Michigan congregation.
To Rev. M. Mondria of Waardenburg, the Netherlands by the Sioux Center, Iowa congregation.

SPECIAL SYNOD
The Lord willing, a special Synod will be held on June 30 (and July 1 if necessary) in the Grand Rapids (Crescent St.) church to address several points and appeals. The preceding evening, a prayer service will be held. (The Curatorium hopes to meet on June 29 instead of June 30 as originally announced.)
May the Lord be in our midst and grant much prayer for His indispensable Spirit, bestowing light and wisdom to follow Scripture and church order, while striving for peace and unity.
“Pray for the peace of Jerusalem: they shall prosper that love thee. Peace be within thy walls, and prosperity within thy palaces. For my brethren and companions’ sakes, I will now say, Peace be within thee. Because of the house of the LORD our God I will seek thy good” (Ps. 122:6-9).

YOUNG PEOPLE’S CONFERENCE (CLASSIS EAST)
The Young People’s Conference for Classis East is to be held, the Lord willing, on Saturday, July 3rd, in St. Catharines, Ontario. Speakers will be Dr. J.R. Beeke, Student A. Vergunst, and Case DenDekker. In order to adequately plan and arrange for this conference, we would appreciate hearing somewhat in advance from those planning to attend, especially from those requiring accommodations for the weekend. Please call and notify one of the following of your intentions: John Heikoop (416) 935-3333 or Pierre Groenenboom (416) 935-5058.
May there be a desire in the midst of us to gather under the guidance of God’s Word, seeking to receive answers to that vital question, “What saith the Lord unto us?” As we consider the many and varied aspects of our lives, what a need there is to have this continually presented unto us, with the earnest prayer in our hearts, “Lord, teach me the way that I should go.”
We look forward to seeing many with us, D.V. — TB
3-DAY YOUTH CONFERENCE (CLASSIS FAR WEST)
Due to the number of participants in the past years, two separate camp conferences are being planned for this summer, the Lord willing. The first is for young people ages 15 (or entering tenth grade) through 19 beginning on Tuesday evening, July 20 and concluding on Friday morning, July 23, D.V. The second conference is planned for young people post-high school age through 25 (and older, if single) from Tuesday, August 17 through Friday, August 20, D.V. Young people graduated from high school through age 19 may choose which sessions they desire to attend.
We have been able to reserve the same location as previous years for both Youth Conferences, i.e. Bear Paw Retreat and Conference Center near the Washington/Idaho border.
Young people desiring to attend from local congregations will need to meet together to organize group bus (or van) transportation, as no individual cars are permitted at the camp. Young people from more-distant localities should contact the conference coordinator for making arrangements in this regard.
Total conference/camp cost is $70 (US) or $80 (Can.) per person — this includes all food and lodging expenses, as well as use of the facilities.
Young people desiring more information are invited to request the information packet and reservation form from the conference coordinator listed below.
May God graciously bless this opportunity for providing meaningful topics for instruction, times for discussion, and opportunities for meeting one another as young people from our congregations.

MISSION NEWS
The above photograph is taken of one of the primary school classrooms in Igede, Nigeria, where nurse, midwife and missionary, Miss Coby Van Rossum has started a Christian school. Since 1990, the government in this area has been unable to pay the public school teachers’ salaries. Consequently, the children in this area are growing up without an education. Miss Van Rossum has been doing what she is able, along with some of the qualified native personel, to give as many children as possible a Bible-based, Christian education. All of the children who come to her schools are required to pay a substantial tuition. But, with the extreme poverty of the people, the funds for the buildings and the teaching aids are simply not available.
Miss Van Rossum is originally from the NRC in Dirksland, The Netherlands and is a retired nurse from the NRC Dutch mission. She has labored to bring the gospel to the native people for the past twenty-nine years. Since her retirement, Miss Van Rossum’s efforts have been primarily to assist and educate, the handicapped people of this densely populated, rural area.
We are enclosing an envelope for you to use if you are interested in giving to this worthy cause. May our hearts be inclined to give so that those in Ingede may also be blessed with Bible instruction. Also pray that God may incline hearts to donate their time and gifts to help in this worthy cause. Teachers, nurses, agriculture leaders and, above all, Bible teachers are desperately needed in this part of Africa. Please send your gifts and requests for more information to:

INFORMATION
Most Lenient “Mercy-Killing” Country
The National & International Religion Report also recently reported that Dutch physicians legally can help patients die, as long as they follow the rules in the lower parliament’s new euthanasia law. The vote was 91-45 to enact the world’s most lenient “mercy-killing” statute. Medical doctors will avoid prosecution if they abide by certain criteria. These include that the patient is suffering a “perpetual, unbearable, and hopeless” (although not necessarily terminal) condition; that the physician or others witness repeated requests by the patient for assisted death; that he/she get a second opinion and provide justification for the choice of the method of ending the patient’s life. Government estimates show that 2,300 Dutch people die by euthanasia, and 400 die by physician-assisted suicide each year. Other, sources cite numbers as high as 20,000 who annually die intentionally. May God mercifully spare us from destroying ourselves, as we all do by nature.
Hawaii to be First to Legalize Sodomite Marriages in U.S.?
Hawaii may become the second place (after Denmark) to legalize gay marriages. The state Supreme Court heard a case October 13 brought by three same-sex couples seeking the right to marry. Attorneys for the couples claimed sections of Hawaii’s constitution concerning privacy, due process, and equal protection require extension of marriage rights to gays. “And even as they did not like to retain God in their knowledge, God gave them over to a reprobate mind, to do those things which are not convenient” (Romans 1:28).
Pro-abortion Executive Orders
According to National Right to Life News President Bill Clinton wasted no time in signing pro-abortion executive orders. On January 22, 1993, the 20th anniversary of Roe v. Wade, he issued orders rescinding several pro-life policies of the Reagan/Bush administrations. With the stroke of a pen, he (1) directed federally-funded family planning clinics to include abortion as a method of birth control; (2) reversed the “Mexico City policy” so that U.S. tax dollars can now flow to overseas organizations that “perform or actively promote abortions”; (3) lifted the ban on using federal funds for research on transplanting fetal tissue obtained from induced abortions; (4) decreed that overseas military hospitals must offer abortions; (5) ordered the FDA to “review” its Import Alert prohibiting the importation of RU-486 for private use and consider “promoting” the testing, licensing, and manufacturing of RU-486 in the U.S. May we storm the throne, weeping for “ourselves and our children,” and for our spiritually blind leaders. May the Lord raise up many Jeremiahs in the land.
Abortions from RU-486 Far from Safe or Simple
Several conservative magazines have all detailed that (aside from the heinous sin of the murder of the unborn child) the abortion pill RU-486 is neither simple nor safe. The procedure is a five-step process including three to four visits to a health clinic. Additionally, one in 20 women must have a surgical abortion to “complete” the abortion. Severe side effects of the pill can include severe pain, nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, and sometime excessive bleeding requiring a blood transfusion. The process may take from days to weeks to complete. We recommend writing letters to the editor of local papers to alert others to the sin of abortion and the added dangers this pill poses. A free copy of an educational pamphlet on this topic can be obtained from CWA at PO Box 65453, Washington, D.C. 20035.
RU-486 has not been introduced into Canada as yet either. Community Impact News reported that Roussel Canada wishes a “supportive political climate” from physicians, government, and the public before introducing the drug for testing. Canadian Banner readers may wish to write the Minister of Health and the company president indicating your opposition. Honourable Behoit Bouchard, Minister of Health, 325 East Blvd., House of Commons, Ottawa, Ontario K1A 0A6; Mr. Donald Buxton, Roussel Canada Inc., 4045 Cote Vertue, Montreal, P.Q. H4R 2E8
Supreme Court Rules in Important Pro-Life Case
The U.S. Supreme Court ruled in January that a Civil War era civil rights law could not be used to prevent protests against abortion. The pro-abortion movement tried to tie these protests together with the concept that these protests are discrimination directed against an entire class of people (women). The Justices, in a slim 5-4 majority stated that “there are common and respectable reasons for opposing it...” other than hatred of women.
