Where Are We Heading?

3 minuten leestijd Arcering uitzetten

On May 24, 2005, a directive was placed in the Federal Register (Volume 70, Number 99) following legislation passed by the United States Congress that all educational institutions receiving federal funding observe September 17 of each year as Constitution Day and Citizenship Day. Such institutions are required to hold educational programs pertaining to the United States Constitution on this date.

In an article in CitizenLink dated September 20, 2010, mention is made that several days after the nation celebrated Constitution Day, President Obama gave a speech to the Hispanic Congressional Caucus Institute at its 33rd Annual Award Gala. At the close of his speech, the President quoted the Preamble to the Declaration of Independence. In his speech, he left out the words “by their Creator.” His quote was as follows: “We hold these truths to be self-evident that all men are created equal, endowed with certain inalienable rights...” rather than the correct version which states, “...endowed by their Creator with certain inalienable rights....”

We must not claim to know what goes on in the mind of the President, and it is possible that the words not spoken represent an inadvertent omission or mistake. Recent comments and actions by the President, however, lead one to believe that the omission is a deliberate one. When he uses the term “freedom of worship” rather than the usual term, “freedom of religion,” and where these two terms now are considered to be interchangeable; when the express statement is made that he will not participate in Prayer Day activities; and when he is actively promoting the homosexual agenda, the thought comes to the foreground that the choice of words was intentional.

We see more and more an erosion and destroying of the foundations laid by our forefathers. When we see an educational system which is commanded not to discuss the fact of Creation but ardently supports and promotes the theory of evolution, we can observe very clearly that there is no room for a Creator. Man is placed in the foreground, and God is written off as a footnote in past history.

There may be those who question our concern with what they would classify as trivial matters. When taken in their larger context, these issues are certainly not trivial but underscore how fast we are sliding down the slippery slope of secularism and humanism.

The duties of parents and our schools become ever greater in directing our young people on the right path. It is definitely made more difficult when those who are elected to lead us direct us down the wrong path. May the Lord grant much prayer for our leaders and give us, as citizens, wisdom and courage to defend what is according to God’s infallible Word, and may He graciously preserve us as nations and restore the former values upon which they were foundeded
