SARA SCHIPPER — Yes, I do remember there being a Koninginnedag in the Netherlands, Sara, but not much else about it. Birthdays are important days for everyone. Did you have a good time commemorating your Grandma’s birthday? Birthdays are days to remember that we have been spared by God’s protecting hand but also that we have become older and need to seek the one thing needful. You know what that is, don’t you?

COURTNEY VAN MAREN — Thanks for telling me about your dog and for the rest of the news you gave me, Courtney. I’m sure you love your little nephew very much. He’s a brave little boy on the slide and in the swing, isn’t he? It doesn’t take babies long to figure out how to play hide and seek. Does he always hide in the same place? How did you do with your Nature Feed drawing? School has come to a close now for the year. How quickly time passes. I hope that in the summer months you will try to remember the Bible lessons you have heard. After I wrote you this note, you wrote me another long letter. Thank you so much. It sounds like you learn many things at school and that you enjoy playing with your friends at recess. Do you have a favorite sport?

ADRIANNA BYERS — It’s good to hear from you, Adrianna. You wrote that you have homework, and at the end of the year there can he projects to finish, right? By now, however, you are having a summer break. Are you eiyoying it? You and your brother did all your quizzes very well. I hope that studying the Bible will be a blessing to your heart. Lincoln is growing fast, just like my little girl. They don’t stay babies very long, do they?

JAKE SLINGERLAND — I certainly recognize all the names of your cousins and friends, Jake, and I’m glad you’ve joined them in doing the quizzes. Thank you for writing a little about yourself. I imagine you love to help your dad in renovating. What jobs do you do when you help? It is good to work hard and be busy. I hope that you also are busy in a different way. We all need to become busy praying and seeking for a new heart.

DAELYNN SLINGERLAND — I also know the friends and cousins you named, Daelynn. Thank you for joining us. Have you learned many Dutch words in your language class at school? You could write some down in your next letter and I would know what you are telling me! When you go to another country and don’t understand the language, it can make you feel very much like a stranger. By nature, we are so at home in the world, but ask the Lord if He will make you a stranger and pilgrim, one of God’s children. He alone is able to do that.

TANYA VAN KOEVERINGE — We had a very mild winter this past year, Tanya. It snowed only once in the fall and once in the winter. Yes, our spring break was very pleasant, thank you, because we were able to visit with family. Did yours go well? Your birthday is coming closer. I hope if you are spared that you will eryoy the day. I also hope that you will think about a whole year having passed . Ask the Lord to work in your heart while you are young.

RYAN VAN KOEVERINGE — Hello, Ryan. You did an excellent job on your answers again. Yes, I like snow just like you. What do you like about snow? I like that snow is so white and pretty. It is cozy to sit inside and watch it fall. It is fun to go sledding or make snowmen. Sometimes we make snow dogs or snow bugs. Most of all, when I see snow, I like to think of Psalter 140. It says, “Wash me whiter than the snow.” Do you know that Psalter? You may bow your knees and pray, “Lord, wash me whiter than snow.” The Lord wants us to pray to Him.

HENRIETTE HEGER — Happy birthday, Henriette. We wish you the Lord’s blessing in the coming year. Were your exams difficult? How was the concert? Do you like playing the flute? I’m sure it sounded very pretty. Perhaps you play Psalters on the flute, too. There are many beautiful psalters that speak of making music to God’s honor. Can you think of some?

MARILYN HEGER — I do like birthdays, Marilyn. I’m always happy when I see a group of girls or boys getting along well. Sometimes when it is time for all the friends to go home again, we moms can be a little tired though! Birthdays are also a reminder for us, aren’t they? They remind us that time passes quickly, and that the Lord was good to us in sparing us and taking care of us for a whole year. Do you remember to spend time reading the Bible and asking the Lord to bless it? That’s too bad that a boy in your class broke his arm. I hope he is feeling better by now. Injuries can happen quickly, can’t they?

KORALEE VANDERVEEN — How exciting for you, Koralee! I would love to see your horse and puppy, and I like their names. Does Blaze have a white splotch on her forehead? What color is he? Do you ride him? We have a new pet, too. She is a three-year-old cat named Ginger. She’s a little shy yet but very sweet. It is fine to use the concordance for extra help, Koralee. I hope this month’s puzzle was not too difficult for you. I see that you did the entire quiz last time!

JANNETTE SCHIPPER — I’ve been wondering how you were doing, Jannette. It’s good to hear from you. It must have been an amazing demonstration at the science center. Science, no matter what type we are studying, can show us how amazing God’s creation is. Man discovers many things, but only God has the power and wisdom to have created so many wonders. The dog course sounds quite complicated. I think our Sparky would get very distracted too! How is Beauty doing in the class now, or is it finished? It sounds like she is becoming a very well trained dog.

Love,
Aunt LenaBeth
