Curatorium Announcement

On May 18, 2011, the Curatorium of our theological school hopes to hold its annual meeting in Grand Rapids, Michigan. The Lord willing, Rev. J. B. Zippro will preach in a prayer service at the Beckwith church the preceding evening. We live in days wherein we must often marvel at the longsuffering of the Lord in sparing the fallen human race. Peter writes of a people, however, of whom the Lord “is not willing that any should perish, but that all should come to repentance” (2 Peter 3:9). For the sake of this elect Church, the world still stands, for they must and will yet come to repentance. Paul speaks of that same people when he declares, “For whosoever shall call upon the name of the Lord shall be saved” (Romans 10:13). But, “How then shall they call on Him in whom they have not believed? and how shall they believe in Him of whom they have not heard? and how shall they hear without a preacher? and how shall they preach, except they be sent?” (Romans 10:14&15a). Oh, how dependent are we as a denomination, in our need, on the powerful working of the Spirit of the Lord to convert and call men into His service for the fulfilling of His own counsel in the gathering of His Church unto the last day of the world. And when it is indeed the Lord’s work, it will be experienced as such by the afflicted and poor remnant of the Lord among us, to the end that they may rejoice in that calling and sending of the Lord, saying, “How beautiful are the feet of them that preach the gospel of peace, and bring glad tidings of good things!” (Romans 10:15b).

Does the Spirit of the Lord also work this conversion and calling among us, with respect to the established churches or the mission field? Are there men in the midst of our denomination, who, perhaps unknown to anyone but the Lord and their own soul, are not able to cast off the burden of the ministry which the Lord has laid upon their heart? Can you say in all honesty, before the face of the Almighty, that it is not a fire stoked by your own kindling, but that it seems that the Lord Himself does not permit it to be extinguished? Are you one of those in whom His Word is in your heart as a burning fire shut up in your bones—one, who is weary with forbearing, that cannot stay? We advise you then to bring the matter before your consistory, leaving the outcome in the hands of the Lord, that He may do what is good in His sight.

The advice of the moderator should be sought by consistories of vacant congregations. If the consistory is truly convinced that the matter is of the Lord, they should grant an attest and contact the clerk of the Curatorium, that he may forward a request for information regarding the applicant. The applicant should also forward his own request for a hearing to the clerk of the Curatorium. Please submit all information as soon as it is available, and at least, if possible, by the first week of May.

May the Lord remember us as a denomination and grant His favor and blessing though it is so undeserved.
