Hope and a future

When these things begin to take place, stand up and lift up your heads, because your redemption is drawing near’ (Luke 21:28). Surely, new things are taking place ‘When in our world right now. Therefore, it is more important than ever to stand firm in Christ with our heads raised.

In times of suffering, when we abide in Christ, our suffering produces endurance. This leads to greater love for God, our brothers and sisters in the faith, and to every man and woman created in the image of God (2 Peter 1:3-11).

Good times can, unfortunately, cause us to forget God, but tough times can help us draw nearer to Him again. Being educators in Europe right now we have a special mission to understand our times. To be sober, wise and to act as God’s shields for those that fear and lose their peace, albeit for good reasons.

In the schoolyear 1984-1985 my wife and I, with our two children turning two and four, took a sabbatical year in our small Swedish cottage. We sought the Lord to gain an understanding of how to live our lives then and in the future. During that time the Lord said this clearly to us: ‘I will lead you in a path so that you can live a happy family life in the end times.’

In 2020 we are nearer to the end of the times than we were in 1985. However, whether Jesus is coming back sooner or later, we still don´t know. What we do know though, is that His promises to us are true, and that He has promised to walk with us and care for us; ‘and surely I am with you always, to the very end of the age’ (Matt 28:20).

Today our family has grown in faith, joy and confidence in the Lord. There are now five children with their families and ten grandchildren. All of them love the Lord and despite our mistakes as parents in the past, God’s mercy and love have been more than enough to keep us on the road that He promised us: ‘”For I know the plans I have for you”, declares the LORD, “plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future”’ (Jer. 29:11).

Now I, and many other Christian educators in Europe, pray and work for a generation that is standing with heads raised, boldly walking into a certain future in an uncertain world. A generation that loves the Lord and does not fear the future. A generation that knows when everything else is shaken, they belong to a Kingdom that cannot be shaken (Heb. 12:28).
