Dear Boys and Girls,

The Bible is different from other books—it is a Book which, when we read it, can begin to read us. When the Bible “reads you,” that means it tells you who you are. The Holy Spirit points out words in the Bible and says, “That is you; you are that sinner.” The words are always the truth; they never lie… How can we know that the Word of God is all true—that it tells nothing but Truth? The Bible is not only a Book which reads who a person is, it is also a Book which proves itself. Every part of the Word of God supports every other part. What is prophesied in one book of the Bible is fulfilled in another book, and the whole Bible altogether shows us God’s righteousness, justice, love, and perfect plan. Only God Himself could have written such clear truths about who God is. Paul, Peter, Moses, David, and many others were the writers, but God is the Author of the Bible. This Truth has always been preserved and will always stand!

If we want to find out the truth about ourselves, we must read the Word of God and we must listen when it is preached. We must ask the Lord to open our heart and our understanding. Do you still wonder how we can know that the Bible is the truth? The Bible tells us the way of salvation—it tells us how we can be restored into God’s favor; this way tells us that God has to do everything and that man can earn nothing of it himself. When a person is convinced of his sins, he soon finds out that no matter how he tries, he cannot bring himself into favor with God; he cannot change himself and become a better person, either. This is exactly what the Bible says— God has worked out the whole plan of salvation, and He applies it to the heart. So what a person feels and comes to know in his heart, he finds back in the Bible—it is true…it is the truth!

Many people twist around the words of the Bible to be what they would like them to mean, but when this happens, God is no longer exalted to the highest, and man is not abased to the lowest.

God is the Author of the Bible and God cannot lie. The devil is the father of lies—he lies most of all about who God is. We often believe the devil rather than God. That is very sad.

When someone doesn’t believe you, he might not say, “You are lying,” but he might walk away with a grumble and a glare. His face might plainly state, “I don’t believe you,” even if he doesn’t say so aloud. This makes you feel bad.

God gives us the Bible. The Bible tells us, “Here, here it is; it says it right here, that it is not well with you. Do you not believe God’s Word?” When we ignore these serious messages, it is as though we, too, say, “I know that’s what God says, but I don’t really believe it; it isn’t as bad with me as that.”

There are people who have searched and hoped for the right message, the only truth, for a long time before finding it. They were restless, going from place to place, book to book, and church to church, trying to find the only truth that would give rest to their soul. Everything was disappointing to them, and nothing could satisfy them until they found the truth.

God works in wonderful ways. There was once a Roman Catholic girl named Sarah Doherty who went to work as a maid in the home of a god-fearing widow. There, she became restless when she heard the Bible read at family worship. She secretly took a Bible from a shelf and began to read. Thirza, a Jewish girl, heard a Bible text at school and never forgot it. She repeated it to her mother, and both of them were made restless, wanting to find out more about this truth. The Lord is able to bring people to the truth or bring the truth to the people.

If these people searched so diligently for the truth while we already have it in our homes, schools, and churches, it will end very badly for us if we never, never take it to heart.
