WHAT CAN WE IN THE UNITED STATES DO TO STAMP OUT RELIGIOUS INTOLERANCE AND RACIAL BIGOTRY?

In the first place, it must be observed, that it is not only necessary that evil (moral depravity) be exterminated out of one nation, but out of every nation in the world, yea, and even from the very heart of every person, which is a world itself within every human being.

Evil has no right to exist either within us or about us, because God did not create man to sin, and it conflicts with His Holy Law as that Law is recorded in the Holy Scriptures of both the Old and New Testaments.

There is wrong intolerance and racial attachment to particular creeds, parties, or opinions, that often leads to some kind of fanaticism, which must be condemned as evil, because it conflicts with the Holy Scriptures and has been demonstrated to be disadvantageous to man’s own heart and to the human society life here on earth.

A wrong intolerance has been mentioned, therefore we must of necessity condemn all hatred, envy, enmity and ignorance, as the fountain from whence floweth forth this wrong intolerance. And the fruits thereof are: lying, deceiving, slandering, wronging each other, persecuting and murdering each other, and the like.

When that wrong intolerance no longer reigneth and there is present a right intolerance of love, then the latter, namely, racial bigotry, just vanishes. Whenever the roots of a corrupt tree are removed, it can no longer bring forth evil fruit.

However, there is also a right intolerance.

For example, man may not tolerate sin in himself. He must hate everything that conflicts with God’s Holy Law; he must forsake it, and combat it, in the power of God. God hates sin and we must also hate it. God spake in the garden of Eden: “the day that thou eatest thereof thou shalt surely die.”

Man may not tolerate sin in another. Any one possessing true love to God, himself, and his neighbor, cannot tolerate sin no matter where it may manifest itself. The Lord spake thus to Israel: “thou shalt not hate thy brother in thine heart; thou shalt in any wise rebuke thy neighbor, and not suffer sin upon him.” Lev. 19:17.

The sin of Heathendom, which manifests itself especially in the worshiping of idols and all manner of abominations, may not be tolerated.

The sin of Christendom, which manifests itself especially in serving God and mammon, and in perpetrating all manner of spiritual idolatry, may not be tolerated.

The sin of Judaism, which manifests itself especially in its hatred and rejection of the Messiah whom God the Father did send upon earth in the fulness of time, according to all the Prophecies of the Old Testament; and then, too, there is the sin of conformity to the world, of the which none may be tolerated.

Since these sins are so great, it is not to be wondered at that God is visiting the earth with His severe judgments; that He is giving man over to himself more and more so that malice now covereth the earth; and that the Jews, whom we also love for the sake of their fathers, are being persecuted almost everywhere they go, and the reason therefor is because they continue to reject the promised Messiah who has already come, by their constant hatred and rejection which they manifest toward Him. That is the curse, the punishment of sin. O would God, that man’s eyes were opened to realize this fact!

God commands a right intolerance in His Holy Word. Where there is love to God, to His Law, and to our neighbor, such love will be practised. Then, it is not difficult to tolerate our neighbor, whoever he may be, with all his imperfections. The Word of God exhorteth: to “Put on bowels of mercies, kindness, humbleness of mind, meekness, longsuffering; forbearing one another, and forgiving one another, if any man have a quarrel against any: and above all these things put on charity (love) which is the bond of perfectness.” O magnificent love to our neighbor; And the fruits thereof are insisted upon by the Apostle Paul where he again exhorteth, saying: “Brethren, my heart’s desire and prayer to God for Israel is, that they might be saved.” Great indeed is the love that this servant of God had for Jews and Gentiles, so that they both might turn unto God in repentance and be saved. And, what does he say about love? “Charity suffereth long, and is kind; charity envieth not; charity vaunteth not itself, is not puffed up, doth not behave itself unseemly, seeketh not her own, is not easily provoked, thinketh no evil; rejoiceth not in iniquity, but rejoiceth in the truth; beareth all things, believeth all things, hopeth all things, endureth all things. Charity never faileth.”

O, may we unitedly pray to God for this love. If it has been implanted in the heart, then be assured that all wrong intolerance, racial bigotry, and dissension vanish away, and out of every nation and kindred poor lost sinners will certainly flee unto the ascended Immanuel, who is now seated at the Father’s right hand, and who did also humbly offer himself as a propitiation for the sins of His people. When Jacob was upon his deathbed, he prophecied: “The scepter shall not depart from Judah, nor the lawgiver from between His feet, until Shiloh come; and unto Him shall the gathering of the people be.” Gen. 49:10.

Therefore, will not the God of Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob command His blessing upon all those that return unto Him from the sadly declining Christendom, Judaism, and Heathendom, and do come unto Him in all uprightness, to obtain true salvation alone in and through Him; to honor and glorify Him, as Zion’s King, who shall come quickly with the clouds of heaven to judge the quick and the dead ? Surely, after death all those souls shall be gathered into the heavenly Paradise, where in all eternity, there shall be no more wrong intolerance nor racial bigotry.
