MISSIONARY REV. G. KUIJT

2 minuten leestijd Arcering uitzetten

Whom do you think the man is that is shown in the picture working with a spade? It is our missionary, Rev. G. Kuijt. He and others are working hard to finish a landing strip so that the small airplane of the Missionary Aviation Fellowship can land at that mission field. The “droppings” will then not be necessary any more, and the missionary can be provided with things which cannot be dropped from the air.

The last letter we received from his was dated July 30. He wrote that it was not an easy task to make a landing strip of about 450 yards. At that date it was nearly ready for landing. The pilots had told him that it looked good from the air. Although at times it seemed like a hopeless task to finish it, he could not give up and prayed to the almighty God for help and courage. Finally, he obtained some sticks of dynamite for blasting the rocks and stones. That was something the natives had never seen. He told them what was going to happen and gave them a small exhibition of it. Thes2 people were astonished when they saw the great power displayed by the dynamite. At times signs of fear could be seen on their faces. Through the goodness of God, no accidents took place.

Much courage and zeal is needed to go forth and labor at such a place and among such blind, ignorant heathen. To learn the language of these people is also a great task and takes time and perseverance. May it please the great and mighty King of Zion to also build His Kingdom among these people and to use our missionary as an instrument in His holy hands.

Rev. Kuijt and his wife are very thankful for all the signs of love and remembrance.
