FOREIGN MISSION COMMITTEE

2 minuten leestijd Arcering uitzetten

The committee, appointed to handle matters concerning the mission work of Miss Anne Herfst in Nigeria, wants to inform the consistories of the various congregations, members of mission committees, ladies aids, and all other friends, about some changes in the above named committee.

In connection with appointments by the combined Classae West and Far West and the wishes of some brothers of the committee, functions of the committee were divided as follows: Chairman: Rev. J. van Sweden, Rock Valley, Iowa; Treasurer: Mr. John Spaans, Plankinton, South Dakota, Route 1, 57368; Clerk: A. Elshout, 21309 Bloomfield Ave., Lakewood, Calif. 90715.

The committee asked me as its clerk, to express its gratitude for receiving your help in the past. Thanks to your support, it has been able to send Miss Herfst to our Nigerian mission field. We were glad to hear from Miss Herfst, that she arrived safely at the Bethesda Clinic and that she is getting used to the work at the clinic and in the villages.

However, in order to enable her and the other mission workers to do their beneficial work, we stand in need of your continued support. We therefore kindly request you, to continue collecting for the mission work in Nigeria, as well as for the mission work of Rev. Kuyt in Irian Barat. Our treasurer will be glad to receive collections, gifts etc. at the above address.

It can happen, that somebody, or some group of persons, wants to do something special or to send something directly to the mission fields. What to do in such a case? Contact the committee first before taking action. To avoid confusion, waste of time, labor and money, there is a co-operation between the Mission Board in Holland and our committee. In order to work in an efficient way, it is necessary, that the committees both in Holland and on this side of the ocean, have a complete knowledge of mission activities. Private actions, without the knowledge of the commitees could eventually disrupt some work of the commitees and we therefore kindly request your co-operation also in this respect.

Hoping, that the Lord may incline many hearts to liberality and that His blessing may be upon all labors, I am, sincerely yours,

(clerk)

Lakewood, January 1968
