REV. L. KIEBOOM BECOMES EMERITUS MINISTER

PREACHES FAREWELL SERMON IN SHEBOYGAN

After serving various congregations in the Netherlands, Canada, and the United States over the last thirty-one years, Rev. Kieboom was granted his request to become an emeritus minister by Classis Midwest and the Synodical deputies. This honorable change in status from regular minister to emeritus minister became effective October 1, 1982.

After having served the Sheboygan congregation for a little over eleven years, Rev. Kieboom took leave of his congregation on Thursday evening, October 21, in a farewell sermon.

Rev. Kieboom read from Romans 8:1–18. His text was Romans 8:5–9, “For they that are after the flesh do mind the things of the flesh, but they that are after the Spirit the things of the Spirit. For to be carnally minded is death; but to be spiritually minded is life and peace. Because the carnal mind is enmity against God: for it is not subject to the law of God, neither indeed can be. So then they that are in the flesh cannot please God. But ye are not in the flesh, but in the Spirit, if so be that the Spirit of God dwell in you. Now if any man have not the Spirit of Christ, he is none of his.”

Rev. Kieboom spoke about 1. The terrible consequences for those who are worldly minded and 2. The blessed consequences for those who are spiritually minded. He stressed that throughout the ages there has been a tremendous difference between people, and there will continue to be to the end of time, even though we are all descendants of Adam.

Rev. Kieboom expressed his desire to go on preaching as long as he is able by the grace of God.

Rev. Den Boer then spoke a few words on behalf of the ministers and consistories of our denomination, especially of Classis Midwest. He expressed thanks for all the work done and hoped that Rev. Kieboom would still be useful in God’s service. His wish and prayer was that the Lord would still remember the Sheboygan congregation in the future. He urged the congregation to pray for their office bearers.

Elder Stapel then spoke a few words on behalf of the Sheboygan congregation, also wishing God’s blessing for the minister and his family and the congregation they were leaving. He hoped the people would continue to remember Rev. Kieboom in prayer.

Rev. Kieboom closed the service with prayer.

Rev. Kieboom’s new address is:

Rev. L. Kieboom

308 Kwanzen Drive

Lynden, Washington 98264
