CHURCH ANNOUNCEMENTS
NATIONAL PRAYER DAY
President Ronald Reagan has set May 7, 1987 as the annual National Day of Prayer for the United States. May Cod command His blessing, and grant us prayer and prayer services that may call us back to His law and testimony (Is. 8:20) as a nation.
CURATORIUM (Final Announcement)
The Curatorium hopes to meet on June 23 at 9:00 AM, in Grand Rapids, Michigan, the Lord willing with those who may have received a consistorial attest with respect to either (1) a ministerial, or (2) a ministerial/ missionary calling.
Consequently, any male member of our denomination who is persuaded that the Lord has called him personally to saving conversion and the ministry of God’s Word at this time, should contact a local consistory member in the coming weeks. Upon such a request, consistories of vacant churches should notify their moderator for his counsel prior to granting attestation. In turn, those who receive a consistorial attest should send it to the clerk of the Curatorium prior to May 15 (Rev. J.R. Beeke, 2115 Romence, N.E., Grand Rapids, Ml 49503). A list of questions will then be sent to the consistory(ies) involved for completion.
May God be pleased to gladden us with His deeds in 1987 through the calling and thrusting forth of several men into His white and ready harvest. Due to the sad fact that we presently have only one student in our theological school despite numerous pulpit vacancies, the Curatorium decided to request that a special prayer service for the divine provision of ministers be held in the congregations in the spring of this year. May the Lord graciously answer our prayer-gatherings by providing our many vacant congregations with undershep-herds to richly proclaim the Chief Shepherd.
May God’s blessing rest upon this announcement. The need for truly converted and internally called office-bearers is great — not only for ordained ministers, but also for elders and deacons. May the Lord take reasons out of Himself to raise up many among us for these respective callings, and enable them to serve with godly simplicity and humility in the midst of the church militant.

DEDICATION SERVICE OF THE ENLARGED CHURCH BUILDING AT NORWICH, ONTARIO
The evening of February 25, 1987 was a joyful one for the Netherlands Reformed congregation of Norwich, Ontario as friends from near and far gathered to dedicate the 600-seat addition of the church building to the service of the Lord
Following the votum and salutation, the pastor of the rapidly-expanding congregation, Rev. J. Spaans, opened a new pulpit Bible while the audience sang Psalter #334. Subsequent to the reading of Genesis 26 and the Belgic Confession, article 27, the local pastor led in prayer to beseech the Lord for His blessing upon the completed addition. His text for this special occasion was Genesis 26:22, “And he called the name of it Reho-both; and he said, For now the Lord hath made room for us, and we shall be fruitful in the land.” The theme of the dedicatory sermon was Rehoboth, which was expounded in the following thoughts:
1. Where room was made: in the house of God.
2. For whom room was made: for us and our children.
3. For what purpose room was made: the fruitfulness of God’s glory and the salvation of sinners.
Additional speakers for the evening, who extended their well-wishes, addressed the congregation in the following order: Rev. J.R. Beeke, on behalf of Classis East; Rev. C. Vogelaar, on behalf of the congregations in Ontario; Mr. J. Heleniak, as mayor of the township of Norwich; and Elder W.H. Pas, as chairman of the Building Committee and consistory representative.
To place an announcement, simply type (or print neatly) your information, enclose $5.00, and forward to “News and Events,” 2115 Romence St. N.E., Grand Rapids, Ml 49503 by the 10th of the month preceding publication.
After a word of closing, Rev. Spaans requested the singing of Psalter 422:6 (standing), and pronounced the benediction. Subsequently, fellowship transpired in the new lobby and reading room where coffee was served.
May God’s blessing richly rest on our sister flock in Norwich, together with its pastor and congregation. May the external expansion become symbolic of internal expansion in terms of conversions and spiritual growth worked by the Holy Ghost for Christ’s sake, by faith, and out of free, sovereign grace.
