BIBLE QUIZ
Dear Boys and Girls,
The quiz this month is about travellers which we find mentioned in God’s Word. If we travel along the highways which stretch from north to south and from east to west throughout the land, we will see that there are always travellers upon them. Travelling is easy because of the beautiful highways which we have today.
This quiz is being prepared while I am enjoying a brief vacation in Florida, so I have again experienced first-hand the benefit of good roads. A few days of travel leaves winter far behind us. For those travelling any great distance, the broad highways of today are pleasant to travel on and bring us more quickly to our destinations. When preparing for a journey of some distance, travel organizations provide maps showing the best routes, and in most cases the four and six-lane highways are recommended.
It brings to mind that which the Lord Jesus taught regarding travelling to eternity. He spoke of two ways, a broad way and a narrow way. But instead of recommending the broad way, it is the narrow way to which He directs us. Why is that? Like the highways of today, isn’t the broad way an easier way, a more pleasant way, a more travelled way? Unquestionably this is true. The Lord Jesus said of the broad way that many were upon it.
Who are those that travel upon the broad way of which the Lord Jesus spoke? Perhaps we would be able to make a list of them. We would include thieves, murderers, lawbreakers, those who live indecently, those who do not attend church, certain people who have a religion which we cannot approve because it is not according to the Word of God, and perhaps we would add many others to this list. The inhabitants of Sodom and Gomorrah, the Pharisees and scribes, and such like would also be listed. Is that all? We must realize that each person who begins life’s journey is travelling upon that broad way. This is because of our deep fall in Paradise. Therefore we too are included among the travellers upon that way, unless the Lord stops us from continuing in that way.
The broad way can indeed seem to be very pleasant to us, very easy, and is used by many, but it has an unseen danger. It leads to destruction. But because we are so blind for this, we continue on this way if the Lord does not prevent it. Of ourselves we do not turn off from this way onto the narrow way. We do not believe the danger which is before us, even though the Lord Himself calls, “Strive to enter in upon that narrow way,” and also says, “This is the way: walk ye therein.” We are by nature so like the children of Israel of old; unbelief fills our hearts, and the broad way is preferred by us.
How necessary it is that we beg the Lord to show us where we are, and learn to cry with the prophet, “Turn Thou us unto Thee, O Lord, and we shall be turned.” “Draw me, we will run after Thee.” May we together use these prayers often, realizing our need also to be upon that narrow way, for that way “leadeth unto life.”
The first letters of the answers will spell out seven words which the Lord Jesus spoke regarding the narrow way.

Again we have some letters to answer:
Jorica Aleman
We are quite well, Jorica. Did you feel bad when school was cancelled for a whole week? When it is that cold, there isn’t much that you can do outdoors. The Bible also tells us this in Psalm 147, “Who can stand before His cold?”
Michelle Les
It was nice to hear from you, Michelle. Do you have quite a few cows on your farm? I suppose that you drink lots of milk. Already in the time of Abraham we read in God’s Word that he took butter and milk and set it before his guests.
Jeff Overbeek
We welcome you to the Bible quiz, Jeff. As you can see, many boys and girls send in their answers month after month, and we hope that you will also be able to do so. Do you like living in Iowa? It is probably not much different from Alberta, but I am sure that you left some friends behind you.
Trina Huisman
The days for sliding are now past, Trina, but now there are other things to do. Boys and girls don’t mind it so much when it is slippery outside, but especially the older people find it quite difficult to walk. Do your grandparents live near you?
Wieska Hoedeman
What did you study about during mission week, Wieska? It is nice when you may hear about the things they do in those far off places, especially when you may hear it from someone who has been working there. Do you think that you would like to visit those places, or maybe even work there?
Trevor Aleman
It was interesting to know, Trevor, that by law the buses cannot run when the temperature is below -30° C. Laws are given for the benefit and safety of people. This is also true of God’s law which we find in the Bible, but many people do not want to obey it.
Peter and Coreen Van Hemert It was nice to hear from you and your friend Brenda. We do have some cold weather here, but not as cold as you have it in your part of the country. Did you think the Bible quiz was difficult this month? Next month, D.V., we will try to have a crossword puzzle again.
Gerrit Neels
Did you also receive a letter back from Izi, Gerrit? When you are far from home, it is always nice to receive mail. Do you know of some letters which were written in Bible times? They might also sometimes be called epistles.
lanice Phillips
You were correct about my mistake, Janice, and I didn’t catch it. Although inquire and enquire are both O.K., the Bible uses the letter “e”, and that would have made the first letters misspell David. But then I looked in another Bible, and the letter “i” was used.
Derek Kreft
If we may have a warm place to live, then the cold weather does not bother us too much, Derek. Warm homes are also a blessing of the Lord, but we don’t often think of them in this way. What do you do at your 4H meeting?
Aline Bosch
Thank you for the article about your school in New Zealand, Aline. It was very interesting. Christian schools of our own are also a great blessing. As you can see in our Banner of Truth, there still seems to be quite a need for teachers. Would you like to be a teacher?
Cynthia Huisman
The word “incurable” is a very frightening word for us, isn’t it, Cynthia? Perhaps we would say that if the Lord Jesus were still on earth, we could go to Him, for He healed all manner of diseases. But we do know that He still lives, and also hears the cry of the needy. To Him we may go with all our troubles.
Julia Neels
When I was in school, Julia, I learned a little of the French language, but have forgotten it long ago. Also in the mission fields there is a continual struggle to communicate with the people there. Then the knowledge of other languages can be very helpful.
Cindy Kreft
We had heard about your accident, Cindy, and were glad to hear that you had no serious results. The Lord is to be acknowledged again for His protecting care. How did the pemmican taste? Perhaps the Indians enjoyed eating it. Or do you think it was a case of necessity?
Charmain Huisman
Our snow is now mostly gone, Charmain. There are only a few traces of it here and there. However, since it is still March when I am writing these letters, we know that it can soon reappear. We did not have such a great amount of snow this winter.
John Den Hertog
Nine puppies are quite a few, John? Did you have names for all of them? Your answers arrived just in time for this issue, so your letter is the last one this time. Do you know the example which the Lord Jesus gave of two different kinds of builders?
Many thanks again, boys and girls, for your answers to the quiz. We look forward to hearing from you each month, but, above all, hope and pray that our studies together may be with the Lord’s blessing.
With love,
Your friend, “Uncle Garret”
