REV. M. HEERSCHAP

Rev. Heerschap underwent heart tests in Calgary a few weeks ago. Though substantial blockage was present, the doctors felt that bypass surgery was not essential at this time. Instead, they placed Rev. Heerschap on stronger medication and forbad him to preach.

May the Lord grant us to remember both Rev. and Mrs. Heerschap in these trials at the throne of grace. Above all, may He grant them to experience, “Wait on the Lord: be of good courage, and He shall strengthen thine heart: wait, I say, on the Lord” (Ps. 27:14).

For many years he was a deacon, and later an elder, at our Waupun, Wisconsin congregation. May the Lord grant that his past labors in the church be blessed to never-dying souls. May He graciously fill the empty place, giving strength to his widow and children, and granting them a godly sorrow which worketh repentance.

INFORMATION

TV Study

The Crand Rapids Press (4-30-90) reported on an extensive study of TV’s effects as follows:

Watching television takes less concentration than eating and leaves many viewers feeling worse than before they sat in front of the set, according to a 1 3-year study.

The study found the longer a person watched the set, the more drowsy, bored, sadder, lonelier and hostile the viewer would become, said psychologists Robert Kubey of Rutgers University and Mihaly Csikszent-mihalyi of the University of Chicago.

Their book, “Television and the Quality of Life: How Viewing Shapes Everyday Experience,” is scheduled to be released today.

“This project is seen as one of the most inclusive analyses on the effects of television,” said Howard Gardner, a psychologist at Harvard University.

Researchers said their study revealed that people who turn their TV sets on to relax are less relaxed than before they began to watch.

American Bar Association Adopts Abortion-on-Demand Resolution

The House of Delegates’ February 13 meeting resulted in the adoption of a resolution supporting “abortion rights.” The prestigious lawyers’ organization, however, has quite a controversy on its hands as a result. Hundreds and possibly thousands of lawyers have withdrawn or will not renew their membership. The treasurer resigned in an unprecedented show of opposition and the replacement treasurer has also threatened to quit. Both the present president and the presidentelect oppose the vote and will not sign any pro-abortion “friend of court” briefs filed with the Supreme Court. At least one law school has ceased paying dues.
