General Synod 1994

As calling church for the General Synod 1994, we would like to announce the following. The Synod of 1993 set the dates for the next Synod as June 29 and 30, 1994. However, Classis East requested that the Synod be convened earlier, and both Classis Mid-West and Classis Far-West agreed to this request.

The new dates agreed upon to call Synod together are May 4 and 5, 1994, the Lord willing. The evening before, there will be a prayer service led by Rev. J. den Hoed of Rock Valley, Iowa, starting at 7:30. At 9 o’clock on May 4, 1994, Rev. A. M. den Boer of Sunnyside, Washington, as moderator of the calling church, hopes to open the meeting.

The place of the prayer service and the meeting was set by the previous Synod to be the Netherlands Reformed Congregation on Covell Avenue in Grand Rapids.

Whereas this will be a regular Synod, many reports of various committees must be considered. Moreover, there are also important items to be dealt with as aftermath of the previous Synod.

May there be found among us a people who have learned to pray as guilty, undeserving sinners. Although such have forfeited everything, may yet the Lord grant them, by grace, a cleaving unto Him, who never forsakes the works of His own hands. We request all the consistories to remember the Synod in public prayer on the Sunday prior to the meeting.

May the Lord be in the midst with His indispensable favor, leading according to His Truth, for His Name’s sake.
