And They Called His Name

In one of the old volumes of the Gereformeerd Weekblad (Reformed Weekly), which is no longer in existence, I found an article that was written by the well-known, experientially Reformed Rev. I. Kievit in which he mentions many names of the Mediator. We reprint this article because it seemed, as editors, a good idea to stand still for a moment by the numerous names by which the Mediator is known— names that He does not need to distinguish Himself from others as we do but in which He is willing to reveal something of His holy Being. Isaiah enumerates in Chapter 9:6 five names of the Messiah when he confesses the born Child— of Mary—is the given Son—of God. “And they called His Name …”—thus, the heading of this article because He really is as He is named. Perhaps our children could learn a number of Jesus’ names from memory. — Rev. van Aalst
